Dr. Zhang is among 56 distinguished individuals across Canada selected for this prestigious recognition, announced by the RSC on Tuesday.

Zhang's induction into the RSC College recognizes his outstanding contributions to the performance analysis and optimization of connected vehicles and cognitive wireless networks.

"I am honoured to be among this year's list of inductees," said Zhang. "I'm grateful to the Royal Society of Canada for selecting me, and I look forward to collaborating with other members of the college."

The RSC's College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists celebrates mid-career researchers who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in their fields. College members, who are appointed for a seven-year term, play a key role in advising governments and agencies, promoting a culture of knowledge and innovation in Canada, and collaborating with national academies worldwide.

"Royal Society recognition as an emerging scholar is a prestigious accomplishment," said  Shanthi Johnson, Vice-President, Research and Innovation at the University of Windsor. "Dr. Zhang is most deserving of this honour. His work exemplifies UWindsor's commitment to pursuing bold, impactful research, and we look forward to his continued contributions to the field."

Zhang holds a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in the Internet of Vehicles and has been recognized globally, with his research cited over 19,000 times. His accolades include being named a Highly-Cited Researcher, serving as a Distinguished Lecturer for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and receiving numerous best-paper awards.

The Royal Society of Canada describes its College as bringing together multigenerational expertise to tackle societal challenges and seize opportunities in emerging fields.

RSC President Alain-G. Gagnon highlighted the impact of the new inductees: "The Royal Society of Canada is very proud to welcome an inspiring group of scholars, artists, and creators whose exceptional contributions will influence public policy and the well-being of our society for years to come."

The RSC will officially induct its 2024 Fellows and College members at a ceremony on Nov. 8 in Vancouver.
