The University of Guelph is one of the top 150 universities in the world for life sciences, according to the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject.
Globally, U of G maintained its high ranking in life sciences, placing 126-150 worldwide for the second year in a row out of more than 1,000 institutions in this category.
When considering only Canadian institutions, U of G was ranked sixth in life sciences, which includes the core disciplines of biological sciences, agriculture and forestry, veterinary science and sport science.
Dr. Rene Van Acker, interim president and vice-chancellor, says the ranking is a testament to U of G's distinct values and experience.
"Being a part of these global rankings is a powerful reminder of what sets us apart from so many other institutions," says Van Acker. "It not only highlights the depth and breadth of programs and disciplines we offer but also the unique experience our students, faculty and staff."
U of G has maintained its ranking in several other broad subject areas, retaining its position as top 400 in the world for computer science, engineering, physical sciences and psychology.
U of G improved its rankings relative to Canadian institutions for computer science, engineering and physical sciences.
THE World University Rankings are among the most respected university rankings in the world. Key performance indicators are scored under pillars that include teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook.
U of G's score was strengthened by improvements across all of these pillars.
Due to the high number of industry patents that cite U of G research, the University maintains its strongest score in the industry pillar, which assesses the ability of institutions to partner with industries on inventions, consultancy and innovations.
