Algoma University and Peel District School Board (PDSB) have formalized a significant partnership by signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that reinforces their commitment to expanding post-secondary opportunities for international students in the Peel Region.
This collaboration will enhance student transitions from secondary to post-secondary education and ensure that international learners in Peel have increased access to academic support, career pathways, and enriched learning experiences at Algoma University's Brampton campus.
"This agreement represents an exciting next step in our shared vision to empower international students with the tools they need to succeed," said Dr. Asima Vezina, President and Vice-Chancellor of Algoma University. "Our strong and growing partnership with Peel District School Board is built on a shared commitment to fostering inclusive, high-quality education that meets the evolving needs of students. By working together, we are creating seamless pathways that not only support academic achievement but also cultivate leadership, innovation, and long-term community growth. This collaboration is a testament to the power of education in transforming lives and strengthening our communities."
Rashmi Swarup, Peel District School Board's Director of Education, echoed Dr. Vezina's sentiment, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in student success. "This agreement strengthens our ability to provide international students with the guidance and support they need to achieve their educational and career aspirations. Through this partnership, we will continue streamlining admission processes, developing academic pathway programs, and creating mentorship and professional development opportunities. Additionally, we are committed to providing students with resources and workshops to help them transition smoothly into post-secondary education."
Both institutions continue to focus on implementing the MOU's objectives to support student needs best while fostering greater collaboration between the K-12 and post-secondary education sectors. The partnership reflects a broader commitment to accessibility, innovation, and student-centred learning.
