ALGOMA UNIVERSITY
Algoma University Looks Ahead Following Strong Engagement at Ontario Universities' Fair

October 21, 2025

After a successful showing at the Ontario Universities' Fair (OUF), Algoma University continues to strengthen its commitment to student experience, community connection, and academic innovation.

This year's OUF welcomed approximately 86,000 attendees, providing a valuable opportunity to connect directly with prospective students and their families. Algoma University representatives engaged with thousands who were drawn to the University's strong sense of community, diverse academic offerings, and commitment to purposeful learning. "It was encouraging to see how many young people are exploring an education that combines creativity, critical thinking, and real-world experience," said Dr. Sheila Embleton, Interim President and Vice-Chancellor. "Algoma's message of belonging and purpose clearly resonated."

Building on that momentum, Algoma University will resume first-year admissions in May and September 2026 for five programs: Visual Art, Geography, History, Sociology, and Music. The resumption of admission intake reaffirms Algoma University's belief that education should develop not only professional skills but also curiosity, compassion, and critical thinking. Algoma University is committed to providing a holistic education that prepares students for success in all aspects of their lives, not just their careers.

"Each program offers something distinctive for today's learners," said Dr. Brett Goodwin, Interim Vice-President Academic and Research. "Visual Art students now have access to a new, fully equipped studio at 1416 Wellington, with facilities for digital art, printmaking, photography, painting, sculpture, and ceramics. Geography students can pursue a STEM-coded Honours degree, explore computer science applications, and gain hands-on experience through the Island Geomatics research project. History students are engaging with digital storytelling and museum studies, pandemic history, and climate narratives. Sociology now includes cross-listed courses with Social Work and a more flexible Minor option. At the same time, Music students benefit from interdisciplinary collaborations and paid placements that help them develop both artistic and entrepreneurial skills for today's creative economy."

Algoma University is deeply committed to connecting with students across Ontario and beyond, offering an education grounded in access, inclusion, and community partnership. "With renewed programs and new spaces, we look forward to welcoming students who are ready to explore their passions and shape their futures at Algoma University," added Dr. Embleton.
