June 4, 2024

Media & Design Services in Conestoga's Online Learning Centre was recognized with top honours for projects submitted to the 2024 Communicator Awards.

The awards are presented by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts (AIVA), which is composed of top-tier professionals from acclaimed media, communications, advertising and creative firms. The organization is dedicated to recognizing excellence, effectiveness and innovation across all areas of communication.

The Award of Excellence - the highest honour - is given to entrants whose ability to communicate positions them as the best in the field. The Award of Distinction is presented to projects that exceed industry standards in quality and achievement.

Media & Design Services submitted four of the team's standout productions from last year to the awards and received recognition for each project: one Award of Excellence and three Awards of Distinction.

The Award of Excellence went to a promotional video for the School of Business called Online: Ready Where You Are by the production team of Brittney Marvell and Will Snyder. The video serves as a compelling promotion for the School of Business continuing education and online programs.

An Award of Distinction recognized an educational video series, podcast series and commercial.

Weekly video introductions were created for a course on Medievalism and the Modern World, turning the learner into an adventurer as they take on new learning experiences each week. The production team was Andrea Molnar, Alan Lotaquon and Wesley Rodricks. Aaren Hopkins, instructional designer, and David Beyon, faculty member, pushed the project forward by scripting 14 weeks of content and collaborating on the visual direction with the animation team.

The podcast series Let's Talk Careers with The Career Profs explores the career paths of people in different industries using an informal interview approach to highlight the different and unique paths each guest takes to success. Jake Morris, Simon Yaroshchuk, Brad Freeman, Ashara Meidell, Ilya Leontiev and Ridham Yadav made up the production team, and Lisa Bauman and Claudia Mellad as podcast hosts.

A promotional video to announce and create excitement around Conestoga's Esports Arena was produced by the team of Brittney Marvell, Will Snyder, Alan Lotaquon, Wesley Rodricks, Ilya Leontiev and Ridham Yadav.

"Overall, I take great pride in the team and the work they create. Drawing from a diverse range of backgrounds broadcast, film, journalism, agency, animation and even business ownership they openly collaborate and actively seek out ideas from one another," said Jessie D'Uva, manager of media services in the Online Learning Centre.

"Their collective efforts consistently deliver a top-of-the-line experience for everyone we work with across the college community. I am thrilled that their creativity and skills have been recognized by industry experts."
