Conestoga's Respiratory Therapy program co-ordinator Gino De Pinto was elected to the board of directors of the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists.

De Pinto - a member of the School of Health & Life Sciences team - will be a director at large for the society for two years, with the possibility of the position being extended to four.

As a board member, De Pinto will be responsible for helping set the strategic direction of the society and providing guidance to the chief executive officer overseeing its operations.

"I am honoured to serve on the CSRT board of directors, working alongside dedicated professionals to advance respiratory therapy and improve patient care. Together, we will shape the future of our profession," De Pinto said.

De Pinto joined Conestoga in 2006 as a part-time faculty member, advancing to a full-time teaching role and clinical educator. His dedication to teaching and learning was recognized with the 2023 Aubrey Hagar Distinguished Teaching Award, Conestoga's top teaching honour.

De Pinto holds a master in education from Yorkville University, a bachelor of science (honours) from the University of Waterloo as well as a bachelor of education from Brock University. He also completed an advanced diploma in Respiratory Therapy from Fanshawe College.

Before joining Conestoga, De Pinto held positions at several regional hospitals and also performed frontline duties during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beyond his work at the college, De Pinto actively contributes to the respiratory therapy community. He served as a committee member as well as a member of the board of directors for the Respiratory Therapy Society of Ontario and is a founding member of the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists Simulation Network committee.
