CONESTOGA COLLEGE
Conestoga welcomes students to its new housing properties

September 9, 2024

Conestoga is excited to welcome students to its new student housing buildings for the 2024-2025 school year. The college opened its doors for the first time to students at 60 University Avenue East in Waterloo. The Inn of Waterloo, its leased property located at 475 King Street North, has also opened to accommodate an additional 300 students.

With the increasing demand for student housing, Conestoga has increased the number of beds by approximately 170% over the last year. By 2026, Conestoga anticipates having approximately 1,800 beds across the communities it serves for future and existing students.

"At Conestoga, we are committed to providing our students with the support they need to succeed both academically and personally," said Trish Weigel Green. "The expansion of our student housing reflects our dedication to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment, ensuring more students have access to safe and comfortable accommodations close to our campuses."

The new properties augment Conestoga's existing student housing in Waterloo at 50 University Avenue East, which opened to students last fall. Conestoga has existing student housing properties in Kitchener and Brantford as well, and other properties at 419 Hazel Street and 400 Albert Street in Waterloo will welcome students this winter. Over the next two years, Kitchener will see additional capacity, with the renovation of 22 Frederick Street, a vacant office building that is being converted to a mix of student residences, offering more than 300 beds for incoming students. As the college expands its footprint into Milton, student townhouses are set to open there by 2025.

"We recognize every student has unique needs, and providing a variety of housing options is essential to supporting their success," added Weigel Green. "Our new properties offer diverse living arrangements that cater to different preferences and requirements, ensuring all students feel at home and are well-equipped to thrive in their academic journey."

In Waterloo and Brantford, there are still 470 beds available for incoming students, ensuring late arrivals and new enrolments will be accommodated throughout the academic year. The college is also exploring opportunities to open these units to students at other institutions.

In 2024-25, the college will invest approximately $78 million on domestic and international student support services that include health and wellness programs, food security and nutrition programs, and housing and employment supports.
