TRENT UNIVERSITY
Training Students for Success in the In-Demand Industry of Supply Chain Management

April 12, 2024

Dr. Ali Vaezi is a new professor and program coordinator in Trent Durham's Logistics and Supply Chain Management Program

"His teaching style is to engage and request input. His style makes you want to listen and be part of the learning process."

This is what third-year Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) student Colin Hubble says about Trent Durham professor and LSCM program coordinator, Dr. Ali Vaezi.

Originally trained as an engineer, Professor Vaezi took a new path to education when he started to realize the importance of skills outside of just technical and analytical knowledge, including strategic thinking, innovation, sustainability, decision analysis, leadership, and collaboration.

His interest in the managerial side of systems grew as he started to question and observe how managers solve real-world problems. Throughout his graduate studies, he grew his expertise in areas such as risk mitigation, data analysis, and of course, logistics optimization and supply chain management.

"For over a decade, I have been drawn to the fascinating world of supply chains. It's been so rewarding to teach and conduct research in this ever-evolving area, and continuously learn along the way."

His students describe him as approachable with a clear commitment to student learning and engagement.

"Dr. Vaezi's classes are interesting and well-structured. The topics presented in class are relevant and provide information on current logistics trends and important concepts. His classes also provide students with the opportunity to navigate real-world scenarios by applying knowledge gained in the course to research-based projects," says third-year LSCM student Lorena Arauz De Leon.

The LSCM program is a unique and innovative program which integrates conceptual and analytical skills. It focusses on the management of supply chain networks and logistics systems. It gives students the relevant supply chain knowledge and skills that employers are increasingly looking for.

"The program and its contents have been carefully reviewed by experts in the field to ensure that students gain the required knowledge and skills needed in today's supply chain roles," says Prof. Vaezi.

With the global demand for professionals with expertise in the supply chain and logistics field, Trent University is positioned to train and produce highly-skilled graduates from the LSCM program, ready to enter the industry.

Trent Durham is located in a region full of top-level logistics and supply chain management employers including OPG, Lactalis, Amazon, and General Motors.

Prof. Vaezi says, "The opportunities are endless for our students."
