FANSHAWE COLLEGE
Fanshawe produced film receives international accolades

December 5, 2023

A film produced by Fanshawe students and faculty is receiving international accolades.

One Love was produced as part of Fanshawe's 2023 UNBOUND Fashion Show. It is a collaborative and sustainable fashion short celebrating fluidity and universal love for each other and our planet, with underlying environmental and social messaging surrounding topics of water protection and gender equality. This film narrates Lauren Bailey's gender journey and depicts the honest emotions, thoughts and experiences of navigating a gendered society and fashion industry as a non-binary person.

The film has twelve international screenings at festivals in locations such as Chicago, Rome, Portugal, United Kingdom and Croatia. It was screened at London's Forest City Film Festival on October 20 at Museum London.

One Love has received a number of awards, including one for Best Fashion Film and Eco Message from the Portugal Indie Film Festival. The film also recently received an award for Best Emerging Talent from the Croatia Film Festival and best Eco Fashion Film from the Roma International Film Festival.

"We are so excited to see our One Love messaging taking on a global platform," says Loren Couto, sustainable fashion professor and creative director of UNBOUND. "This film is a passion project collaboration between sustainable fashion, film/video and music programs highlighting ocean protection, gender fluidity and supporting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals."

UNBOUND serves as a capstone project for students in the Fashion Design advanced diploma program. Since 2020, the project has moved away from a traditional runway show and toward new, innovative ways for students to display their work. The fashion films are produced in collaboration with students from across Fanshawe's Faculty of Creative Industries, including Advanced Filmmaking, Music Industry Arts and Visual Effects and Editing for Contemporary Media.
