FEBRUARY 11
Fanshawe's Share the Land concert provides hope and community support

February 5, 2025

Fanshawe students are gearing up to celebrate London's musicians while giving back to the community.

The 14th annual Share the Land concert takes place February 11 at London Music Hall and the event's proceeds will go to HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre

Fanshawe students from the Music Industry Arts (MIA) program organize the event, allowing them to take what they've learned from their program and apply it in a real-world setting.

"Every year, we see all the hard work our MIA students put in come to life on the stage. Some are the performers but the planning, technology, broadcast, promotion and everything that happens behind the scenes is just as impressive," MIA Program Coordinator, Dan Brodbeck, said.

Fanshawe's MIA students study the business of music, learning artist and label management, digital media technology, audio and live sound production, as well as writing, producing and engineering that helps them compete in today's music and entertainment industries.

"To put a show on like this as students is incredible and we are always blown away by what they accomplish," Brodbeck said. "It has become an annual community event that really showcases the collaboration as well as the talent and we are proud to share this with the community."

HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre assists individuals coping with the emotional strain that accompanies the cancer journey. Their programs are centred around the four pillars of wellness - exercise, nutrition, stress management and sleep - and aim to help cancer patients and their loved ones find the necessary support to navigate the physical and emotional challenges that come with the disease.

Share the Land contributes to London's vibrant music scene, which was recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO ) with the UNESCO City of Music designation. London is Canada's first city to receive this award.
