Georgian welcomes Dr. Sanja Beca as new Dean, Health, Wellness and Sciences

Georgian's new Dean, Health, Wellness and Sciences will help lead the academic area which is known for quality healthcare education, including innovative, immersive, interdisciplinary spaces and cutting-edge technology for student learning.


Dr. Sanja Beca is the new Dean, Health, Wellness and Sciences at Georgian College.

 

Dr. Sanja Beca joins the college on March 18. In her new role, she'll provide leadership to a dynamic team of faculty, staff and students in an exciting and growing portfolio featuring diverse programs in Health, Wellness and Sciences.

"I'm delighted to welcome Dr. Beca to Team Georgian," says Dr. Yael Katz, Vice President Academic. "Her experience, expertise and passion, as well as her open and collaborative leadership approach, will be an asset in advancing our commitment to changemaking, innovation and an unrivaled student experience."

Dr. Beca comes to Georgian from Sheridan College, where she served as the Associate Dean for the Applied Health portfolio since 2016. During her tenure, Sanja led the successful implementation of many strategic projects focused on academic excellence, innovative program development and pedagogical innovation through space design including high-fidelity simulation and AR/VR technology.

She believes in the transformative power of education as a force of change. She is passionate about finding new ways to bring faculty, students, and community partners together, across different disciplines, to create opportunities for learning, collaboration and research focused on innovative solutions to community health and wellness, health equity, chronic diseases prevention and management.

"I'm thrilled and honoured to join Georgian College, globally recognized for cutting-edge curriculum, state-of-the-art simulation labs, and quality experiential learning opportunities," said Dr. Beca. "Georgian's Ashoka U changemaking college designation, its focus on innovation, and wonderful community of faculty, staff, and students make it truly an anchor institution for Central Ontario. I look forward to being part of the team, as I believe that together, we can accomplish great things and be the engine of socioeconomic progress through the transformational power of responsive, accessible, human-centric education in Health, Wellness and Sciences."

Dr. Beca earned a medical degree at the University of Belgrade, Serbia, and a PhD in Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Calgary. She completed her postdoctoral training in cardiovascular physiology at the University of Toronto.
