GEORGIAN COLLEGE
Georgian students sparkle at jewellery store opening, art exhibition

March 27, 2024

Student artwork and design is being celebrated at Georgian College, with the grand opening of a student-run jewellery store and group art exhibition.

Georgian Jewellery, a brand-new on-campus jewellery store run by students in the Jewellery Design, Bench Skills and Business program, will open to the public on March 28. That same day is the opening reception for an art exhibition by graduating students in the Fine Arts program.

The festivities begin with the grand opening of Georgian Jewellery:

  • March 28 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • M153, Sadlon Centre for Health, Wellness and Sciences (M building), Georgian's Barrie Campus, One Georgian Dr., Barrie, ON.

Guests can purchase or view handmade jewellery created by first-year students in the Jewellery Design, Bench Skills and Business program. Free jewellery cleaning and inspection will also be available.

"The new store is a unique opportunity for jewellery-making students to learn about the entire process of taking their creations from design and production to marketing and sales," said Andrea Wenckebach, Professor, Design and Visual Arts. "It's yet another example of how our students get hands-on learning experiences that will prepare them for their future careers."

That evening, the final graduating class of Georgian College's Fine Arts program - evolving into the Visual and Digital Media Arts program - is hosting a group exhibition called Arise!:

  • March 28 from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • D140, The Campus Gallery (D building), Georgian's Barrie Campus, One Georgian Dr., Barrie, ON.
  • Admission is free.

The exhibition will offer a vision of contemporary art through the lens of emerging artists. From printmaking and drawing, to painting and sculpture, it will include pieces from nine student artists: Chaunte Norman, Ekjot Kaur, Hope Fogarty, Lily Grass, Paige Dickson, Parwinder Kaur, Sadie Menzies, Sirena Chipre and Tanu Sharma.

"As these artists transition from their school environment to their professional arts careers, Arise! showcases their hard work over the course of their program. We're so excited to share their art with the Georgian community," said Amy Bagshaw, Director, The Campus Gallery.

For anyone who is unable to make it to these events, Georgian Jewellery will also be open on Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m., and The Campus Gallery is open each week Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
