Lambton College and C2R2 Partners receive Hydrogen Digital Innovator Award for energy-focused micro-credentials

May 14, 2024

Recognizing the pivotal role of digital innovation in advancing the hydrogen industry, Lambton College, in collaboration with Mohawk College, Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), Holland College, and Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), were pleased to have been awarded the Hydrogen Digital Innovator Award at the Annual Canadian Hydrogen Convention held in Edmonton, Alberta last week.

The Hydrogen Digital Innovator Award recognizes the groundbreaking contributions of Lambton College and its partner institutions in utilization of digital education within the energy sector. The collaborative project was funded by the Canadian Colleges for a Resilient Recovery (C2R2) coalitions and resulted in the development and delivery of two cutting-edge, web-based micro-credentials tailored to support energy sector professionals in transitioning to hydrogen-fueled power for industrial processing.

The awarded micro-credentials, titled "Hydrogen Awareness and Understanding for Process-Related Occupations" and "Entry-Level Technical Applications in Hydrogen for Process Occupations," provide vital tools for upskilling, offering comprehensive insights into the fundamental principles, applications, and safety protocols of hydrogen within industrial settings. Designed to cater to diverse industries ranging from manufacturing and energy to chemicals and transportation, these micro-credentials equip learners with the essential knowledge and skills required to navigate the evolving energy landscape adeptly. Utilizing expertise from participating institutions and partners across Canada, the resulting curriculum will be integrated in programing with additional training to be offered by the five partner colleges.

"We would like to extend our congratulations to our C2R2 partners on the Hydrogen Digital Innovator Award," said Rob Kardas, President & CEO, Lambton College. "This honour is a testament to the innovative spirit and unwavering commitment of all stakeholders involved in ensuring the preparedness of our workforce for the future energy sector landscape. Lambton College is proud to be part of this transformative project and the strides it has made towards realizing a net-zero future."

The Canadian Hydrogen Convention serves as a premier platform for showcasing hydrogen's pivotal role in achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The event brings together energy executives, government, and Indigenous leaders to build collaborative pathways towards Canada's low-carbon energy future.
