Sault College is proud to announce that three of its nursing students have been awarded scholarships from the Registered Nurses' Foundation of Ontario (RNFOO) for 2024. These awards recognize the outstanding achievements and potential of these students in the field of nursing.
The first scholarship, the Mary Brunning Harkin Scholarship, was awarded to Tanvir Ahmed a third year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student. This award supports a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse studying at the baccalaureate level, or a nursing student in their third or fourth year who demonstrates their career path is dedicated to the care of the elderly. With a passion for primary care and a particular affinity for older adults, Tanvir is cultivating invaluable skills and insights through clinical rotation and has been recognized for the second consecutive year from RNFOO.
"Receiving an award from the RNFOO for the second consecutive year is truly a great honour for me. It serves as significant encouragement as I continue to pursue my education as a nursing student and aspire to transition into a nurse practitioner role in the near future," said Tanvir.
The second scholarship, the RNFOO Undergrad Scholarship PN Program, was awarded to Practical Nursing student Dalaina Orr. Dalaina entered the program with the goal of assisting vulnerable populations living in Northern Ontario where she resides. Her passion in this area stems from work as a Coordinator for Victim Services and experiences as an Auxiliary Sergeant with the police.
"Winning this scholarship and award is more than an honour, it is a validation of the journey I've embarked on returning as a student in my 40's. Balancing work, family, and studies hasn't been easy, but this recognition reaffirms that I made the right choice. It motivates me to keep pushing forward, knowing that success is possible, even amidst challenges. Financial support like this is invaluable, easing the burden as I pursue my dream of becoming a nurse while juggling multiple responsibilities," said Dalaina.
The third scholarship, the RNFOO Undergraduate Scholarship 3-4, was awarded to a third year Bachelor of Science in Nursing student, Nasrin Sadia Munmun. This scholarship was awarded to a student demonstrating high academic standing and with potential to make outstanding contributions to nursing. Nasrin Sadia Munmun, a resilient third-year collaborative BScN student, epitomizes determination and compassion in her journey to nursing excellence.
"Being selected for the RNFOO award among thousands of Ontario nursing students confirms my dedication to education and fuels my pursuit of excellence. It validates my commitment and ignites a renewed sense of purpose. As I enter fourth-year nursing next September, I am inspired to make a meaningful impact in healthcare," said Nasrin.
The RNFOO enhances and advances nursing practice and contributes to the health of individuals by raising funds and stewarding sound investments to provide awards and scholarships to Ontario nurses and nursing students in all programs including RN, RPN and RN-EC, and at every level, including Masters and Doctorate. Sault College is honoured to have its students recognized by such a respected organization.
Sault College is committed to providing its students with the education and experience needed to excel in the field of nursing and is proud to see its students recognized for their outstanding achievements.
Congratulations to all the recipients of the RNFOO scholarships.
