Board of Governors extends Dr. Janet Morrison's term as President and Vice Chancellor

Sheridan's Board of Governors has voted unanimously to renew President Janet Morrison's contract through 2028 as the College continues to advance several initiatives associated with Sheridan 2024: Galvanizing Education for a Complex World. Dr. Morrison is now serving in her sixth year as President and Vice Chancellor of Sheridan College.

"Continuity of Janet's exemplary leadership will allow Sheridan to build on the substantial progress it has made toward the bold vision identified in our strategic plan and position us to respond to the critical challenges postsecondary institutions are facing in Ontario. On behalf of the Board and Sheridan alumni around the world, I thank Dr. Morrison for her vision and leadership."

Under Janet's leadership, Sheridan has:

  • Created and adopted an ambitious strategic plan to architect a new kind of higher education that brings together key elements of colleges, polytechnics and universities to unleash people's full potential;
  • Propelled to the pinnacle of Forbes' list of Canada's Best Employers, from the number 87 spot in 2020 to number 14 in 2021, number 8 in 2022, and first in 2023; Built and opened Hazel McCallion Campus' new $43M student centre in partnership with Sheridan Student Union and Sheridan Athletics;
  • Conceived and led the development of the Brampton Charter for Improving the International Student Experience. Created with hundreds of community inputs from postsecondary institutions, community agencies and all levels of government, the Charter supports international student success with guiding principles, goals and actions, and mechanisms for accountability;
  • Established its first Office of Inclusive Communities, which has led Sheridan in courageous new directions that prioritize equity, diversity and inclusion in organizational policy, procedures, and decision-making;
  • Successfully prioritized student and employee health during the enormous disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic while preserving student experience, making access to vaccinations a priority, and protecting Sheridan's fiscal health.

"It is my great honour and privilege to serve as Sheridan's President and Vice Chancellor, and I couldn't be happier about the chance to continue to serve its students, faculty, staff and partners for another five years," says Dr. Morrison.

Dr. Morrison is Sheridan's 8th President and Vice Chancellor. She has more than two decades of leadership experience in the postsecondary sector. Dr. Morrison spent 17 years at York University working in various roles focused on learning, discovery and engagement, culminating in her position as Vice-Provost, Students. Before joining York, she held leadership positions in student affairs at the University of Guelph and Bowling Green State University
