On August 15, the Mayor of Fort Erie, His Worship Wayne Redekop welcomed the Honorable Jill Dunlop, Ontario's Minister of Colleges, and Universities, to Fort Erie to unveil an exciting new post-secondary partnership in the Niagara Region.
Mayor Redekop and Minister Dunlop were joined by leaders from local industry and trades, as well as the two academic institutions bringing the innovative training programs to Fort Erie, Sheridan College and Canadian College of Technology and Trades (CCTT).
Following the ribbon cutting, Minister Dunlop toured the upgraded labs and classrooms where the first set of diploma programs will be conducted: such as Welding and Fabrication Technician, Mechanical Technician - Precision Machining and Project Management. Hundreds of students will soon be enrolled in innovative, hands-on training technical skills employers in Niagara Region, and across Ontario, need. Minister Dunlop congratulated Sheridan College and CCTT on embarking on this new partnership, which aligns with the province's goals to create a skilled workforce that can help grow Ontario's economy.
Mayor Redekop thanked Minister Dunlop for Ontario's approval of this partnership and for her personal visit to inaugurate the facility. Mayor Redekop informed Minister Dunlop that he and his municipal colleagues are excited for what this new facility will achieve - diverse, young talent, good paying jobs and a credentialled workforce that will benefit employers all over the Niagara Region.
Applications are now open through the Sheridan at CCTT website, and the first cohort is expected to start courses this fall.
