The subtle scents of capsaicin wafted through the corridors of the Student Life Centre at St. Clair College Tuesday (Oct 29) during the annual chili fundraiser.
Co-hosted by the Community Integration through Cooperative Education (CICE) Club and the Protection, Security and Investigation/Police Foundations Society, students dished out both meat and vegetarian-style chili to hundreds of patrons on Oct. 29, 2024.
Some of the CICE students cooked the chili in their culinary classes and other CICE students in Culinary Arts served it during the fundraiser.

"The PSI students play a pivotal role in supporting our students and promoting the event throughout the St. Clair hallways," said Kerry Reimer Jones, a professor and program coordinator for CICE. "Both Ed Marocko and Peter Soulliere from the Police Foundations and Protection, Security and Investigation programs go above and beyond for the CICE program."
Doling out the fresh chili at just $3 per bowl, the clubs managed to raise $531.89 during the two-hour event.
"The kids were proud that they were serving lunch to their peers and raising money at the same time," said Ming Tran, an administrative assistant at the College who ventured into the SLC for lunch.
"The chili was delicious, but it was the winning recipe of giving, cooperation and passion that warms our souls. Supporting a greater cause is what this is all about."
Proceeds from the event will go towards a CICE scholarship.
