ST. CLAIR COLLEGE
Warm Hands, Free Mitts campaign kicks off at St. Clair

November 28, 2024

Winter is coming, and the Warm Hands campaign is well underway to ensure those in need can stay cozy with proper outdoor wear as the temperature drops.

The School of MAD (Media, Art & Design) and the SRC have teamed up to collect donations of new or gently used gloves, provided for free to anyone who needs them.

Decorated bins are located at the Main Windsor Campus in the main foyer near the Student Life Centre and at the Downtown Windsor Campus near the security station on the first floor of the St. Clair College Centre for the Arts. Mittens can also be dropped off at the SRC office.

Just a week into the campaign, there has been a lot of activity by way of both donations as well as withdrawals.

"Our two bins have been depleted and winter hasn't even quite begun," said Alycia Tomalty, a professor in the Hospitality program at St. Clair College. "We've clearly struck a chord with our students, so we would be grateful if we can continue to offer up mitt or glove donations."

Donations of gloves, hats, and scarves will be accepted throughout the winter months and items can also be taken directly from the donation bins.

"As the weather begins to drop and you sort through your mismatched gloves and mitts, I'm hoping you will maybe take a few extra minutes to pair up those you think you and your family may no longer use or need," said Tomalty, who asks that gloves be safety-pinned together, or wrapped with a rubber band so the pair remains together.

"If you need gloves or mitts, help yourself to a pair, or feel free to donate to show that you care," she said.
