The Kootenay River Secondary School kitchen got a makeover this year! The kitchen renovation, completed in January 2025, includes all new cabinetry and countertops, a prep island, new plumbing fixtures and a sanitizing dishwasher, as well as a new fume hood and updates to the serving area.
The capital project was funded through the Feeding Futures School Food Infrastructure Program (FIP), a $5 million per year program to assist boards of education with creating, improving, or expanding the delivery of food programs.
This project came together with support from the school, KRSS Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), local contractors, and our in house SD8 Trades Team led by Allan Stang.
Great job everyone for your work to make sure we have functional kitchens to prepare good food for children so they are ready to learn!
