The third annual Science Expo welcomed 36 projects and 50 participants from the Tri-Cities to the City Centre Branch library on Thursday, May 10. The vast majority of the students came from School District 43 Elementary, Middle and Secondary Schools.
Senior winners from left to right: 2nd place: Mike Roslikov; 1st place: Ah Jin (Angela) Yoo; 3rd place: Christopher Halim
The four project categories were: Elementary (gr. 4 and 5), Middle (gr. 6 to 8), Junior (gr. 9 and 10) and Senior (gr. 11 and 12). The project quality was extremely high once again, with the Senior Category leading the way. Nine judges from Douglas College, as well as one from Environment Canada, interviewed participants, reviewed their projects, then conferred to determine first, second and third place in each category.
Winners received either a medal for second or third place, or a trophy for first. Each will receive a prize cheque from the library. From Elementary to Senior, first place prize cheques range from $200 to $400 in value, with smaller amounts for second and third.
Coquitlam Public Library is proud to promote scientific innovation and experimentation among youth with its Science Expo partners, School District 43 and Douglas College.
Congratulations to all SD43 winners and participants at this year's science expo.
