GRANDE PRAIRIE PUBLIC SCHOOL DIVISION
Principal Announcements for the 2023-2024 School Year

March 9, 2023

Grande Prairie Public School Division's Superintendent, Sandy McDonald, is pleased to announce new administrative appointments for the 2023-2024 school year, effective September 2023.

"At Grande Prairie Public School Division, we are proud of our school leaders who continuously challenge themselves and support their staff to further the success of our students," stated Superintendent McDonald. "They are not only leaders but serve as inspirational role models for our school community members and students."

Jason Wall, Principal
Charles Spencer High School (Gr. 9-12)

Jason joined Grande Prairie Public School Division in 2014 as a classroom teacher at Grande Prairie Composite High School and in 2016 became Vice Principal at Riverstone Public School. In 2020 he became Vice Principal at Charles Spencer High School.

Jason earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge, as well as a Master of Educational Leadership.

Throughout Jason's career with GPPSD, he has consistently maintained success for all students as his top priority. He believes that "quality instruction in every classroom is the most important contributing factor to academic success for students."

Garth Paquette, Principal
Swanavon School (K-6)

Garth began his career with Grande Prairie Public School Division in 2005 as a classroom teacher and since 2013 he has been the Vice Principal at the Grande Prairie Composite High School.

Garth earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, and a Master of Education with a specialization in Multidisciplinary Leadership from the University of Northern British Columbia.

Garth believes, "a principal supports continuous improvement in the personal and academic growth of students by first creating the conditions necessary for growth. This can be achieved by developing a school culture where there is passion and a shared moral purpose of making a difference in the lives of all students."

Superintendent McDonald shared, "Jason's experience at the high school level, as a teacher and a vice principal, and his understanding of Charles Spencer, in particular, gives him the experience and knowledge necessary to assume the role of Principal next fall. Jason has been deeply involved in leading staff, student, and parent engagements at the school this year and we are pleased to see him continue this work in a new role."

"Garth's knowledge, skills, and experience as a teacher and vice principal have created the foundation for him to assume the role of Principal of Swanavon Elementary School at the start of next year. Garth is excited to apply his instructional leadership practices to new grade levels and we know he will provide a high level of support to the staff and students at Swanavon."
