New Principal Announcement - Mary Bergeron Elementary School, Edson

Along with a new facility for the upcoming school year, Edson will be welcoming a new principal. Darcy Reynolds will be taking the helm at Grande Yellowhead's newest school, Mary Bergeron Elementary School, effective August of 2017.

Darcy's extensive professional background as a dedicated teacher and experienced administrator at the principal, associate superintendent and superintendent levels at both private and public school settings, encompass the qualities desired for the division's next principal and administrative team member.

"Grande Yellowhead is very fortunate to have Darcy join our team with his extensive administrative background and passion for excellence. I am very confident that the staff and students of our newest school will only thrive under his leadership," notes Cory Gray, Superintendent of Schools.

In the area of academic preparation, he is a graduate of the University of Alberta with a Master of Education in elementary education and teaching, and is proud to have worked almost 30 years in the education field in various teaching and administrative roles. Darcy was also inducted into the Alberta Shooting Stars Association in 2007- Alberta Coaches Hall of Fame - in recognition of 20 successful years of women's basketball coaching and program building in the province of Alberta. His considers his leadership/ educational philosophy to be a simple, but powerful one. "I believe that ALL students can learn and be successful." He is also excited to be part of the unique opportunity to merge together two strong schools into one vibrant and effective team at the new facility.

While his position officially begins in late summer, Darcy will be busy over the next few months as he relocates to Edson from his current position as Superintendent for Alruwad International School in Oman, and assists with the final details and decisions needed as the school construction completes over the summer. His wife Christine, a Kindergarten teacher, and Molly, their youngest daughter of three children, will also be joining him - an exciting move for the delighted grandparents as his middle daughter, Danielle, has been living in Edson with her husband and two young children. His oldest son Donovan is currently working in Bonnyville.

Mary Bergeron Elementary School is currently under construction in Edson and is scheduled to be opened in September 2017 with a projected enrolment of 400 students and 35 staff.
