March 10, 2025

Students from Carihi and Timberline Secondary schools brought home several awards from the Skills Canada North Island regional competition held on Friday, February 28.

Carihi students Dani Pimlott won gold in digital art, while Jett Taylor and a teammate (name withheld for privacy) secured gold in 3D animation. These victories earn them the right to compete in their respective categories at the provincial Skills Canada competition. Additionally, Kayin Dennis from Carihi will advance to the provincials to represent the North Island in baking.

The provincial Skills Canada competition is scheduled to take place at Abbotsford's Tradex on April 17. Winners at the provincial level will move on to the national competition in Regina, Saskatchewan.

In the North Island regional competition, Carihi students, Lochlan Burton and a teammate (name withheld for privacy) also earned silver in video production, while Joey Fagan and Xander De Villiers earned bronze medals in 3D animation. Another Carihi student (name withheld for privacy) also won bronze for digital art. Timberline student Kevin Johnstone won silver, and Peyton Fitzgerald won bronze, both in cabinet making.

Skills Canada encourages students to explore interests in trades and technology fields, preparing youth for the skilled economy through competitions, in-school programs, online challenges, and student conferences.
