A children's art project is brightening a construction site in North Kamloops. It's called Bring Your Colour', and it included children from several groups, including SD73's after-school programs, who painted pictures of people on plywood boards. Then, instead of a groundbreaking ceremony, the company involved in the construction project, ARPA Investments, held an unveiling ceremony Oct. 16 at The Tapestry on Spirit Square project at MacKenzie Avenue and Yew Street.
"Bringing the community together in this colourful and vibrant project has created a lot of joy for our after-school programs and lifted the spirits of some of the Parkcrest Elementary kids after losing their school earlier this year," said Alexandra Inglis, district after-school program coordinator.
The children painted their panels through the month of September at the Boys & Girls Clubs, the YMCA, Kamloops Immigrant Services, local elementary schools, and the Kamloops Innovation Centre.
Once construction on The Tapestry on Spirit Square is complete and the art project is removed, the McDonald Park Community Association is interested in re-purposing the art project for their community garden.
