Assistant Superintendent Announcements

Medicine Hat Public School District No. 76 is pleased to announce the appointments of two Assistant Superintendents for the 2017-2018 school year. These appointments are the result of a year-long process of examining the organizational structure in the District's Central Office. The outcome of which will see a staff reduction held centrally and an increase in professional learning and technology support to schools. After an extensive search, Medicine Hat Public School District No. 76, welcomes the following:

Assistant Superintendent: Universal - Joanne Pitman

Formerly, the Director of Administration and Learning Supports for Grande Prairie Public School Division, we introduce Joanne Pitman in the new role of "Assistant Superintendent: Universal". As such, her goal is to create and achieve Optimal Learning Environments in our schools by supporting the work of our team of school-based Optimal Learning Consultants.

Mrs. Pitman has a broad range of experience in education as a classroom teacher, counsellor, academic support teacher, technology coach, elementary and junior high principal and district principal. Joanne has been focusing on supporting the development of evidence-based collaboration and learning for teachers and school leaders to meet the learning needs of students. Mrs. Pitman attended the University of Lethbridge, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and Bachelor of Education degree in 2000, and a Masters of Education in 2008.

"I am excited to join the dynamic team at Medicine Hat School District No. 76. where it is evident that student learning is at the core of the focus. It is with great anticipation that I look forward to connecting with students, staff, parents and community as part of Medicine Hat Public."

Mrs. Pitman was born and raised in Alberta. She has three children (20, 14, and 11) and is married to Kelly Pitman.

Assistant Superintendent: Inclusive Mindset - Corey Sadlemyer

As principal at Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre since it's inception, we welcome Corey Sadlemyer in the new role of "Assistant Superintendent: Inclusive Mindset." Mr. Sadlemyer will work in tandem with Mrs. Pitman, school principals, Classroom Support Teachers and members of the Student Services team to ensure coherence in the service we provide students who require an Individual Study Plan and our commitment to provide engaging, challenging and meaningful learning opportunities for all students.

Mr. Sadlemyer's approach to supporting the collaborative cultures of his schools and his belief that all people are capable of learning, make him well suited to this position. He has a long history of supporting teachers in personalizing learning and his school's approach to our first foray into developing a school profile was exemplary.

Mr. Sadlemyer challenges us to think outside the box in our approach to meeting the needs of students. His perspective is an important one as part of further developing a balanced and thoughtful model for student services.

Mr. Sadlemyer attended the University of Lethbridge, earning Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Management degrees in 1996. He completed his Masters of Education at the University of Alberta in 2010.

"I look forward to serving the school district in this new role and I'm excited to join the evolving central office team in what is sure to be some of the most engaging and challenging work we have done yet."

Mr. Sadlemyer was born in Calgary and raised in Medicine Hat. His wife is also an educator and their children (ages 12 and 10) attend school in Medicine Hat Public.
