Board of Education appoints new Superintendent of Schools & CEO effective August 1, 2022

Following a comprehensive search process, the Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Aaron Callaghan to the position of Superintendent of Schools & CEO of Coast Mountains School District 82 effective August 1, 2022.

Having started his career in British Columbia in School District No. 60 (Peace River North), Aaron is looking forward to returning to B.C. in this new role.  He is an experienced and skilled leader, who puts the learning needs of children first.  Passionate about education, innovation, learning success and inclusivity, Aaron brings great insight, leadership and a strong commitment in his new role to make a positive difference for all students within School District 82.

Aaron currently holds the position of Director of Programs & Student Services of the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education in Nova Scotia, where he is a member of the Executive Leadership Team.  He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education from Mount Allison University, as well as a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from St. Francis Xavier University.

With 27 years' experience in education, he brings a broad experience base that includes the implementation of his current district's visionary improvement plan, the coordination of an accelerated literacy skill development initiative for primary grades, and implementation of a cross-divisional learning framework focusing on Indigenous and African Nova Scotian history and culture for 3,000 regional employees.

In accepting this appointment, Aaron is eager to begin to form the relationships that will make it possible to continue the good work already taking place in the school district, while enabling him to play a key role in ensuring a strong future for Coast Mountains' learners and schools.  Aaron shared, "I am both excited and grateful for the opportunity to return to B.C. and serve the learners and families of School District 82 as Superintendent.  Student success, well-being and inclusionary practices will continue to be at the forefront of our efforts as we implement the Board's Strategic Plan".

Board Chair Margaret Warcup stated, "In selecting Aaron as Superintendent of Schools & CEO, our Board of Education recognized the outstanding experiences that he will bring to the position and in particular the commitment he expressed to the implementation of the Board's Strategic Plan".  The entire Board extends its sincere gratitude to the staff, administrators and partner groups who contributed to the recruitment process, including building the candidate profile and participating in interviews.  The insights provided were very helpful and the Board wishes to thank each participant for their time and valuable input.
