Everette Nichol, a Grade 9 student at Cold Lake Junior High, has been selected as Northern Lights Public Schools' Student Shining Star for the Month of May for her exceptional academic achievements and commitment to her school community.
Throughout the majority of the first semester of the current school year, Everette's diligence and hard work led her to maintain an impressive 100% average in all her core classes. Although achieving perfect scores became more challenging towards the end of the semester, Everette laughed and said she was "pretty close."
"Everette has consistently demonstrated academic excellence," said Hannah Ludlage, one of her teachers at CLJH. "Her dedication, resiliency, and hard work in her academics this year are truly commendable, making her a standout student who is undeniably deserving of recognition. Everette is also incredibly skilled at finding a balance between academics, sports, and serving her school community. These are critical foundational skills for students to develop at a young age as they prepare to enter high school, and eventually the workforce."
In addition to her academic pursuits, Everette is actively involved in sports, including hockey, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and track and field, which she cites as her favorite activities outside of school. While graduation may be a few years away, Everette has her sights set on the future, with plans to follow in the footsteps of her older siblings at the University of Alberta.
"I'm not quite sure what I want to do yet," she said. "I've thought about a lot of things. Something in the medical field. Or maybe law. I've got a couple of years to figure things out before I have to make a decision."
The staff at CLJH also highlight Everette's interactions within the school community as one of Everette's most impressive characteristics. Known for her respectfulness and leadership, she serves as a role model for her peers.
"She is consistently kind to her teachers, asking insightful questions, and actively helping classmates with their work," said Cold Lake Junior High Principal, Chan Cusson. "Everette is an embodiment of our school's COBRA mission and values Courage, Commitment, and Compassion and she consistently demonstrates them in her actions."
Everette Nichol is the Northern Lights Public Schools Student Shining Star for the month of May. Each month during the 2023-2024 school year, NLPS is featuring different Shining Stars and celebrating their contributions and accomplishments.
