Rocky View Schools' (RVS) Superintendent of Schools Greg Luterbach is pleased to announce effective March 1, 2019, John Murphy will take on the role of Principal of the new K-8 school in Airdrie's Hillcrest community, anticipated to open in 2019/2020.

"John is a leader with a passion for creating vibrant and caring school environments," said Luterbach. "With over 23 years of experience as a school administrator and a proven track record of successfully opening three schools, I look forward to the vision and enthusiasm he will bring to Hillcrest's new school community."
Murphy's tenure in RVS dates back to 2002, when he joined the division as the Principal of Crossfield Elementary School. He later moved into his current role as the Principal of Nose Creek Elementary School in 2006. Prior to arriving in the jurisdiction, he held several teaching and administrative roles in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Murphy's administrative experience spans all grade levels, from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, including dual-track English/French immersion and First Nations, Métis and Inuit programming.
Murphy holds a Master of Education, specializing in Leadership, from the University of Calgary, as well as a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts, both from the Memorial University of Newfoundland. He also attained a Facilitation Certificate and completed a Principal Certification Program.
"On behalf of our Board of Trustees, I extend our congratulations to John on his new assignment," said Todd Brand, Board Chair. "We look forward to his continuing leadership as he takes on this new challenge."
