Students across Wolf Creek Public Schools will soon see the benefits of $100,000 in nutrition grant aimed at upgrades and equipment in schools.
The grant money is part of the Canada-Alberta National School Food Program Agreement to expand and enhance Alberta's existing School Nutrition Grant Program. The funding specifically targets nutrition-related infrastructure, including appliance replacements and additions to support student meals. By replacing outdated equipment or adding new resources to schools that require them, the overall quality of student nutrition improves.
"This funding is valued and greatly appreciated, as we know how crucial proper nutrition is to student success," said Tim De Ruyck, WCPS Superintendent.
"When students have access to safe, nutritious food prepared in well-equipped school kitchens, they are better able to focus, engage, and learn. These investments ensure our schools have the infrastructure needed to support healthy choices and to serve students consistently across the division."
Nearly all schools in Wolf Creek are benefiting from the grant funding, from new commercial refrigerators to countertop appliances to ranges and freezers.
"Modern, reliable kitchen equipment is essential to delivering safe, high-quality meals to our students," said Superintendent Tim De Ruyck.
"Upgraded appliances allow our schools to store fresh ingredients properly, prepare meals efficiently, and expand healthy menu options. Investing in this infrastructure ensures we can consistently provide nutritious food that supports student health and learning."
The upgrades made available through the Canada-Alberta National School Food Program Agreement will make an impact quickly, as the deadline for the funding dollars is March 31.
