The Edmonton Catholic Schools Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that they have entered into a new Collective Agreement with the Edmonton Catholic Teachers Local 54. At the March 20, 2024 Public Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees voted unanimously in favour of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that was earlier ratified by our teachers.
This new Collective Agreement emphasizes the Board's recognition of the essential and valued contributions of our teachers to our schools and school communities. In addition, the new agreement supports professional development and work-life balance.
"I wish to applaud the collective efforts of the entire bargaining committee. It speaks volumes to the faith and integrity in your commitment to reaching a negotiated resolution. On behalf of the board, I share our gratitude to everyone involved for affirming the best interests of those who join together in this great endeavour of Catholic education," shared Board Chair Sandra Palazzo. "Our teachers are deeply committed to the students and families of Edmonton Catholic Schools and dedicated to helping our students reach their full potential. We are grateful to be able to move forward together, providing the best possible experiences for our students."
Negotiations between the bargaining committees spanned approximately one year, beginning in February 2023. Although a Memorandum of Agreement was reached in June 2023, it was not supported by the membership. Collective bargaining resumed and concluded with a second MOA being reached on February 16, 2024, with a mediator's support. On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the Edmonton Catholic Teachers Local 54 voted in favour of the second MOA.
