Division Appoints New Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services

Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Catherine Giesbrecht as Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services. Mrs. Giesbrecht brings a wide variety of experiences from a career in education that has spanned 24 years. She has served in the field of education as a Teacher, Learning Support Facilitator, Vice Principal, and Principal. Mrs. Giesbrecht has worked in all levels of K-12 education as a teacher and administrator, and also has experience as an Alberta Initiative for School Improvement (AISI) Lead and Professional Development Coordinator. She has worked extensively in French Immersion programming over the course of her years in education and currently serves the Division as principal of École Secondaire St. Margeurite d'Youville.

Mrs. Giesbrecht holds a Master of Education Degree from the University of Calgary, specializing in Educational Leadership. She obtained her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta, graduating with Distinction.

Superintendent Dr. Clint Moroziuk commented, "I am very pleased that we were able to cultivate leadership from within Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools and am thrilled to welcome Mrs. Giesbrecht to our Senior Leadership Team. She is a visionary thinker regarding student learning and assessment and I am excited to work with her to further grow our division's excellence in these areas."

Mrs. Giesbrecht and her family are active members at Holy Family Parish in St. Albert and she is a regular volunteer who works with the chaplaincy team at the Edmonton Remand Centre, offering her time and gifts as a model of faith and witness to the imprisoned.

Upon acceptance of the position, Mrs. Giesbrecht commented, "I am honoured for the opportunity to serve the students and families of Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools in this new capacity. I look forward to contributing to the Senior Leadership Team and feel blessed to continue working with the exceptional staff in our division."

Mrs. Giesbrecht will commence her new role as Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services on April 6, 2021. Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Giesbrecht to her new leadership role with Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools.
