GREATER ST. ALBERT CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
Greater St. Albert Catholic School Division Launches Capital Planning Engagement Campaign

April 6, 2022

Greater St. Albert Catholic School Division has launched a capital planning engagement campaign, GSACRD Capital Plan - Moving Forward Together. This Plan will guide decision-making about school facilities and programming, considering current and future needs by using feedback from the community.

"We acknowledge the passion and commitment of our school communities, and it is so important to us that we hear from our community within this engagement process,'' says Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Clint Moroziuk. "We want to get this right and collaboratively develop solutions that are built and supported by our community as we grow together as a division."

Between March 16th and April 24th, the community can participate in an online engagement platform, online workshops, and facilitate their own discussions with the help of Host Your Own Conversation Toolkit. The Greater St. Albert Catholic School Division will also be engaging with students in grades 7-12 to enhance learning about capital planning and provide an opportunity to contribute ideas. Furthermore, a Capital Planning Engagement Community Working Group is also being formed to support the Board of Trustees and Division Administration in identifying possible solutions to maximize school utilization.

"Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools believes all students should have access to the best learning opportunities possible to ensure we are serving our students and preparing them for the future," says Greater St. Albert Catholic School Board Chair, Joe Becigneul. "We look forward to the opportunity to work alongside our community and hear what ideas they come up with regarding capital planning solutions."

Every school board in Alberta submits capital plan requests to the Ministry of Education each year. The Ministry of Education evaluates all requests submitted and prioritizes projects. This is then submitted to the Provincial Capital Planning group to consolidate requests from all provincial ministries. Projects are evaluated from a Provincial standing for criticality, readiness, alignment with government priorities, and available budget. Projects approved by Cabinet become part of that year's Provincial Capital Plan.
