LAKELAND CATHOLIC SCHOOL DIVISION
New Holy Family Catholic School Reaches Steel-Raising Milestone in Waskatenau

February 20, 2026

Construction of the new Holy Family Catholic School has reached a major milestone with the completion of the project's steel raising, marking visible progress on the K-12 school now under construction in Waskatenau.

"Seeing this school take shape is an exciting milestone that took lots of teamwork between the province, the school board, industry partners and the community.

This step marks meaningful progress toward delivering the high-quality learning spaces Albertan students deserve." - Martin Long, Minister of Infrastructure

"The raising of the steel is an exciting milestone for Holy Family Catholic School and for families across the region," said MLAGlenn van Dijken. "This project represents a strong investment in student success and community growth, and I'm pleasedto support Lakeland Catholic School Division as this important work moves forward."

The steel raising marks the point at which the building's structural framework is fully in place, allowing construction to advance into the next phase of work.

Prior to the final beam being lifted into place, students, staff, trustees, and key stake holders were invited to add their signatures. The beam-signing reinforced that this project stands not only on steel, but on the determination, collaboration, and shared belief in the importance of Catholic education in the region.

"This milestone reflects years of planning, collaboration, and advocacy," said Anna Brockhoff, chair of the Lakeland Catholic School Division board of trustees. "It brings us closer to welcoming students into a space designed to support both academic success and faith-based learning."

The new school will include flexible classrooms, career and technology studies spaces, science and music rooms, a full-sizedgymnasium, and a shared community library intended to serve both students and the broader community.

For the school community, seeing the project take shape marks a significant step forward.

"Watching the structure take shape reinforces why this project matters," said Farrah Ollikka, principal of Holy Family Catholic School. "This building will soon allow us to offer students a learning environment that truly matches the care, attention, and expectations we hold for them."

Once complete, the school will serve students and families from Waskatenau and surrounding communities, providing a local, faith-based learning environment designed to support students from kindergarten through Grade 12.

Construction remains on schedule, with work continuing in the months ahead as the project moves toward completion.
