Following an update provided to Council at the December 14 Council meeting, the Town is excited to announce that Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools (RDCRS) is hoping to receive funding for another elementary school in Blackfalds.
As the existing school, St. Gregory the Great Catholic School is at capacity, Administration has been working diligently with RDCRS over the past year to look for a suitable parcel for a new elementary school. Seven possible locations were assessed in various areas of the community that met the primary requirements.
A four-hectare site in Aspen Lakes West was chosen by both parties as to the preferred site and the Town is currently completing negotiations on the acquisition of the land affected.
A new elementary school in Blackfalds remains a top capital plan priority for RDCRS and they are optimistic that a funding announcement from the Province will be forthcoming this spring. RDCRS is hopeful a targeted opening of the new school could be a reality as soon as September 2024.
