BSD Schools Awarded Indoor Gardens through Little Green Thumbs and Ag in the Classroom

November 2, 2022

Five BSD teachers from Crocus Plains, Earl Oxford, George Fitton, Riverheights and Waverly Park Schools were recently awarded indoor gardens from Little Green Thumbs and Agriculture in the Classroom (Manitoba) after attending a professional development session in Winnipeg recently.

Little Green Thumbs (LGT) is our (AITCMB) full-size, intensive classroom gardening program. It is ideal for Grades 3 and up, with large grow boxes and lights to grow tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, basil, lemon balm, beans, peas and anything else you and your students want to grow and eat! Compost classroom food waste with our vermicomposting kit and cycle the nutrients back to the garden.

The PD sessions took place over two days, with a focus on bringing gardens, resources, programs, and agriculture into classrooms across Manitoba.

Training and workshops were facilitated by Agriculture In the Classroom (Manitoba), Nutrien Ag Solutions Canada, Federated Co-op Ltd., The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and Richardson Farms.
