The cyber warriors of Pembina Trails School Division have once again demonstrated their prowess in the digital realm by clinching one of the top spots in the CyberTitan VII competition. Held on May 8th, this prestigious event saw six students from Pembina Trails Collegiate (PTC), Fort Richmond Collegiate (FRC), and Institut collégial Vincent Massey Collegiate (ICVMC) competing against the best across Canada.
CyberTitan serves as the Canadian National Finals for the CyberPatriot international competition. To qualify for CyberTitan, teams must rank among the top eight in the country. This year, our CyberTitan team outcompeted over 100 teams across Canada to qualify for the CyberTitan Canadian National Finals.
These competitors, who are either students in the Pembina Trails Early College (PTEC) program or taking Cybersecurity Technical Vocational Education (TVE) programming at Pembina Trails Collegiate, dedicated countless hours honing their skills, practicing every Thursday from September to February. Their commitment and dedication shone through as they meticulously configured and secured eight different machines during the competition.
The winning team comprised of Pari Gambhir (Captain, FRC), Adam Sandler (ICVMC), Skye Kun (PTC), Oluwabukunmi Leke-Atere (PTC), Sam McBride (PTC), and Eileen Shu (PTC) and was coached by Scott Hardman (PTC) and James Warren (PTC). Their exceptional performance secured them second place nationally and first place provincially in this rigorous cybersecurity challenge!
Reflecting on their achievement, the coaches expressed immense pride in the students' accomplishments. With most of the competitors having three to four years of experience in the competition, they showcased not only their technical expertise but also their resilience and determination.
Looking ahead, the coaches eagerly anticipate the return of the Grade 11 students next year, aiming to seize the top spot in CyberTitan VIII and secure a place in the CyberPatriot international finals.
