South Queens Teacher Wins National Award

The 2019 Physical and Health Education (PHE) National Conference was held this past weekend in Montreal. During the ceremony awards were handed out including the PHE Canada National Award for Teaching Excellence in Physical Education which honours Canadian teachers who provide outstanding teaching performance at the elementary, middle, or secondary levels. It is awarded to someone who has an exceptional ability to motivate students to participate in a lifetime of physical activity and who further Physical Education in Canada.

Sonya Cook of South Queens Middle School was the recipient of the Physical Education Excellence Award ; congratulations! Sonya has worked at SQMS for almost 15 years. She is a passionate educator who has proven to be able to make positive lasting connections with students. Sonya has a great understanding of community and over the years she has made connections with many community groups and individuals to increase and build relationships so students have a wider vision of citizenship. She is always looking for new and innovative ways to reach students and finds or develops programs to meet student needs and recently brought her expertise to the steering committee for the re-vamp of the provincial health education programs. Congratulations Sonya!
