Tomiko Robson appointed as Assistant Principal at École Sir John Franklin High School

YK1 is pleased to announce the appointment of Tomiko Robson as Assistant Principal at École Sir John Franklin High School, effective August 21, 2026.

Tomiko brings over twenty years of teaching experience in the Northwest Territories and a breadth of knowledge about education in the North that shapes her practice as a teacher and leader. She is a dedicated educator whose practice is always grounded in what best helps her students learn, and she is particularly passionate about helping students discover or rekindle their love of reading. Tomiko has capably led the English Department at Sir John since 2017, helping to diversify classroom texts, navigate the challenges of online teaching, and implement the BC curriculum. She also coaches the SJF Debate Club, including coaching and judging at the National Debate Championships.

Tomiko earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts and Science degree from McMaster University. After earning her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia, she moved to the Northwest Territories and taught for three years in the Tlicho community of Wekweeti. She has lived in Yellowknife since 2006. A founding member of the Yellowknife Dance Collective, Tomiko is also known in the community as a choreographer, performer and dance instructor. She also loves spending time on the land with her family and, of course, reading.
