YELLOWKNIFE EDUCATION DISTRICT NO. 1
Congratulations to YK1's five Minister's Award winners

January 16, 2020

The following is a statement from YK1 Superintendent Metro Huculak regarding YK1's five Minister's Award winners from the past school year:

"I'd like to congratulate the five students from École Sir John Franklin High School who were presented with Minister's Awards recently. Every year, the Department of Education, Culture and Employment presents the awards to high school students who achieve the highest mark in 10 core subjects on the Alberta Diploma Exams. YK1 is pleased to announce that Sir John students won a total of six awards (in addition to the Governor General's Award) this year. This is an exceptional accomplishment, and staff are very proud of the following students for achieving this feat: Emma Butler, Charlotte Dixon-West, Ida Fells, Diana Rockwell and Emma Willoughby. In addition to two Minister's Awards, Emma Butler also won the Governor General's Award for having the highest average in an NWT high school. Each recipient will also receive a $500 scholarship from YK1 for their hard work.
