Trustee Sharon Hobin chair elected Chair of DPCDSB

At the Inaugural Meeting of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, held Tuesday, December 4, trustees elected Mississauga Wards 2 & 8 trustee, Sharon Hobin as chair of the 11-member Board of Trustees. First elected to the Board of Trustees in 2006, Ms. Hobin has served in various leadership capacities, including two years as Vice-Chair. (2009-2011), She has also chaired the Faith and Program Committee and the System Review and Strategic Planning Committee, as well as serving as Vice Chair and Chair of the Administration and Finance Committee. She is also a member of the Challenged Materials Committee, Discipline Committee, Special Education Advisory Committee and the Supervised Alternative Learning Committee. She most recently served as Vice Chair of the Administration and Finance Committee.

Longtime Mississauga Ward 5 Trustee, Thomas Thomas was elected vice-chair.

"I feel very blessed to have been the support of my colleagues around the Board table and I thank them for their confidence in me," said Sharon Hobin. "I would also thank my colleague, Mario Pascucci for his leadership as Chair over the past many years and I look forward to the challenges ahead knowing that we, as a board of trustees are up to the task and also that Catholic education in Dufferin-Peel and across the province is strong and flourishing."

The meeting opened with the annual address to the board by the Director of Education. Director Marianne Mazzorato recognized and thanked system partners, including employee groups, trustees and staff at all levels for their commitment and dedication to Catholic education. She highlighted in her remarks that, as the DPCDSB approaches its 50th anniversary as a school board, it is an appropriate time to recognize the hard work and commitment of those who laid the foundation for the success and health of the system today.

The meeting was preceded by a Eucharistic celebration held in the Catholic Education Centre's St. John XXXIII Chapel, celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop John Boissonneau.

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of the largest school boards in Ontario with approximately 81,000 students in 150 schools located throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville. The board is also one of the largest employers in the region with approximately 11,000 employees.
