McMaster Start Coding is a club whose focus is to get students of all ages and backgrounds to consider Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines by providing free programming workshops and hackathons.
The initiative involved a mentorship model, where McMaster University students trained 40 secondary student mentors to deliver coding workshops in elementary classrooms.
The initiative was a huge success, with 14 elementary classes participating!
Thank you to the McMaster Start Coding Club and HCDSB secondary students for volunteering their time to teach our intermediate students coding skills!
