HAMILTON-WENTWORTH DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
EQAO Releases School and Board Results for 2021-22 Assessments

November 7, 2022

The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released school and school board data for its 2021-22 assessments. These results come two weeks after EQAO shared provincial highlights from the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT), Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics, and the Assessment of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics for Primary and Junior Divisions.

"Student Learning and Achievement was, and continues to be, a pandemic priority," said Sheryl Robinson Petrazzini, Director of Education. "The EQAO results represent a new baseline for HWDSB. We expect to see improvements as a result of new and continued learning recovery strategies."

The 2021-22 school year marked the first time Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) students and staff participated in EQAO assessments since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. These results also reflect a new, modernized EQAO approach, which now features computer-based assessments that assess reading, writing, and mathematics skills.

Learning recovery plans will be informed by the following strategies and approaches:

"As we prepare to engage the community on new Strategic Directions for HWDSB starting in 2023, it is helpful to examine these EQAO results to consider where we need to go," said Robinson Petrazzini. "We have strived to support well-being during the pandemic and thank students and staff for their effort and participation when the assessments were administered last year."

The data in the tables below displays how HWDSB results compare to those at the provincial level for each of the four assessments. A full listing of results can be found through EQAO.
