The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) is pleased to announce that Stephanie Circelli has been named as the new Superintendent of Education, effective Aug. 19, 2024.
"I am honoured to have the opportunity to serve the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board community as Superintendent of Education," said Stephanie Circelli. "I am thrilled to return home to HSCDSB, where I first began my career in education. The mission, vision and values of the Board resonate deeply with me. I look forward to sharing my passion for learning and working with the senior team to support the Board's strategic directions in Catholic education and inspire the next generation of leaders and learners."
Circelli, a proud graduate of the HSCDSB system, brings over 25 years of rich experience in education. Her teaching journey began with the Board as a student teacher on placement and she taught Grade 10 science and math in the summer of 1999. Her career then took her to London, Ont., where she became an integral part of the London District Catholic School Board (LDCSB). Her roles at LDCSB have been diverse, including secondary school teacher, student success teacher, vice-principal, and principal.
In her most recent role as Superintendent of Education with LDCSB, she held various portfolios, such as safe schools, mental health and well-being, special education, Catholicity, equity and Indigenous education. She is also a field supervisory officer, overseeing 15 elementary and three secondary schools, supporting principals with instructional leadership and operations.
"Stephanie has done incredible work with the London District Catholic School Board, and we know she is going to bring that same drive and passion for Catholic education and leadership to our Board," said Director of Education, Fil Lettieri. "Her 13 years of experience as a secondary school vice-principal and principal are also an asset, and we look forward to the expertise that Stephanie will bring to our admin team."
During her time as Superintendent of Education with LDCSB, Circelli also gained extensive knowledge of education legislation, policies, and procedures. She has worked collaboratively with community partners and post-secondary institutions to support student achievement, well-being and faith development.
As a lifelong learner, Circelli holds three university degrees, including a Master's in Education in International School Leadership, which she gained from Charles Sturt University in Australia. She also has qualifications in special education, guidance and religion.
Circelli takes over the Superintendent of Education position previously held by Lettieri, who became the Director of Education for HSCDSB on July 1, 2024.
