School Division announces the name of St. Catherine Catholic School!

"Be who God meant you to be and you will change the world!" renowned quote of St. Catherine of Siena, the new patron saint of W.F.A. Turgeon School.  The Prince Albert Catholic School Division and Board of Education are proud to announce W.F.A. Turgeon will be renamed to St. Catherine Catholic School effective August 1, 2018.

This name change has been approved by the Board of Education to have the school's name better reflect the Catholic identity of our schools.

Forty-two names were submitted to the Board of Education and Bishop Albert Thévenot of our Diocese for consideration. The students, staff and families of our educational community were requested to submit names and a rationale for the Board and Bishop's consideration.

W.F.A. Turgeon is an elementary school with programming from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 6 situated at 1180 Branion Drive. Students and staff will now endeavor to pick a school mascot and team name as well as engage in learning more about St. Catherine.

St. Catherine is known for devoting her life to prayer after she had a vision of Christ. Later, she became a doctor of the Church as she influenced and contributed to the Catholic Church.

St. Catherine devoted her life to be an activist of reform for peace and serving others to alleviate suffering of the poor and sick. St. Catherine truly believed in the gift of building friendships.  St. Catherine was radiantly happy and full of practical wisdom. As a Catholic educational community, St. Catherine's attributes of serving others, seeking peace and seeking truth will support our students to develop self-confidence in the pursuit of spirituality, knowledge, truth and personal growth.

The Board of Education is very proud of the staff, students and parents for their efforts in this endeavor.
