As a Catholic community, we mourn the loss and celebrate the life of long-time Board of Education trustee Debora (Deb) Berscheid, who passed away July 18, 2023.
Deb spent her entire life in Humboldt with the exception of her Grade 12 year, which she spent in Bruno attending the Ursuline Academy. She became a special care aid and served at St. Mary's Villa for 38 years. In her professional role, she also served on CUPE and SAHO union locals.
Before her service as an elected trustee representing Humboldt on Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools' Board of Education (2006 - 2023), Deb served on the Humboldt Catholic School Division's board. (The two divisions amalgamated in 2006.). Deb was also part of the Joint Operations Committee, a partnership that jointly governed Humboldt Collegiate Institute with Horizon School Division.
Deb is survived by her husband Roger, their two children: Jason and Catherine (husband Brian), her mother Marjorie Stroeder, her eight siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
"Deb's passion for education and the community in Humboldt was obvious to everyone," said Diane Boyko, GSCS Board of Education Chair. "She was never shy about sharing her opinion. Everyone at the board table respected her perspective, insight and experience. And she had a wit that kept us all on our toes. We will miss our friend and colleague."
A funeral was held at St. Augustine Parish in Humboldt in July. Please pray for the repose of Deb's soul and for the consolation of her family.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
