Halloweening for Hunger the tradition of student volunteers going door-to-door collecting food for the the food bank has resulted in almost 35,000 pounds of food for local food banks.
Student groups at St. Joseph High School and Bishop James Mahoney High School (BJM) prepare for the food drive by delivering flyers in local neighbourhoods so residents can plan their support ahead of time.
Covering over 200 routes, students collected non-perishable food items the evenings of October 30 and 31.
The results? St. Joseph students collected 16,667 pounds of food, and BJM students collected 16,006 pounds of food for the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre. BJM students collected another 2,171 pounds in Warman that went to the Warman Food Bank.
Thank you to everyone who donated, students who collected the food, and teachers and school staff who organized the student initiative.
