From the beginning, Team 2852 stood out.
As Niagara Catholic's only First Robotics team, they quickly established a reputation for innovation, teamwork, and a passion for STEM. Today (April 1), after two successful competitions, Denis Morris' Team 2852, also known as DM High Voltage, is headed to the Ontario Provincial Championship to show off their impressive skills.
The team consists of 12 Denis Morris secondary students and 10 industry mentors, many of whom are alumni of Team 2852. DM High Voltage enthusiastically dove into the 2025 season, said Andy Kittel, a teacher at Denis Morris Catholic High School and the robotics team advisor. He's particularly proud of the group's dedication. In these competitions there are no kits, no shortcuts - just raw creativity and determination.
DM High Voltage began their season at Niagara College's Welland campus for a weekend-long competition in March. There, they faced 27 teams from across Ontario and some from the United States. The team fought their way through the rounds, making it all the way to the finals, where they earned a silver medal.
Their second competition held at Durham College, was another intense showdown with 31 teams from across Ontario. The team made it to the finals a second time and took home a silver medal, proving that their success isn't a flash in the pan.
"We are very proud of our accomplishments," said Kittel. "The team has had some struggles, but the students always persevere and let their determination shine through their successes."
Their journey doesn't end there. With the support of local businesses, sponsors, and our Catholic community, we're confident that DM High Voltage is prepared to take on another challenge at the Ontario Provincial Championship, which began April 2. There is so much the future holds for this impressive group of students. At Niagara Catholic, team number 2852 is number one in our hearts!
We wish them nothing but success at their skills competition this week!
