PEEL DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
PDSB and Canada Learning Code partner to support students through Future Pathways program

December 6, 2023

Peel District School Board (PDSB) and Canada Learning Code (CLC) are pleased to announce the launch today  (Nov 30) of a new educational partnership in collaboration with Google Canada. The Future Pathways program will provide PDSB students and staff with foundational skills in data analytics skills that are in high demand.

The first school board partnership of its kind, Future Pathways will provide opportunities for 200 students in Grade 11 and 12, and 25 PDSB staff members with free access and wrap around support toward the completion of the Google Data Analytics Certificate program.

Why data analytics? Supporting students in their pathways and identifying trends in the future of work are paramount for PDSB and CLC. Data analysts make sense of data and numbers to help organizations make better business decisions. Analysts prepare, process, analyze and visualize data, discovering patterns and trends and answering key questions along the way.

The career opportunities available to students who have completed this program are wide ranging and well compensated. Data analysts empower their teams working in organizations of all kinds, including in industries as varied as entertainment, finance, healthcare, tech and more rely on them to help them improve their processes and launch new products as applicable.

"At Peel District School Board, we recognize that while we are preparing our students for the future of work, in many ways, the future is now, and we need to capitalize on that. This partnership will provide PDSB students with a unique, competitive advantage, while removing financial barriers toward this certification. I look forward to seeing the expansion of this partnership with Canada Learning Code in the years to come."

- Rashmi Swarup, Director of Education, Peel District School Board.

"At the heart of the partnership between Canada Learning Code (CLC) and the Peel District School Board (PDSB) lies the shared belief in the transformative power of education and recognition that educational journeys are more diverse today than ever before. By offering PDSB students with access to tech education that may be outside of a traditional trajectory, we equip them with more than just opportunity; we provide a passport to navigate the education and technology landscapes. Investing in our youth's digital literacy and creating innovative pathways to careers is imperative in building a better and more inclusive future."

- Melissa Sariffodeen, CEO, Canada Learning Code.

Acceptance criteria will be based on interest, motivation, and academic competencies, with a focus on equity deserving and marginalized students to ensure a diverse group of participants.
