Queen Elizabeth II P.S. receives technology grant from Desjardins and EdCan

February 11, 2021
Queen Elizabeth II Public School is among 20 schools across Canada to receive a $5,000 technology grant from the Desjardins Tech Donation Program in collaboration with EdCan Network. The grant will be used to purchase Chromebooks, bringing staff one step closer to their goal of providing all students with access to technology.

"We are extremely grateful to Desjardins and EdCan for their generous support," says Vice-Principal Coleen Eberlein. "This grant will give us the opportunity to further integrate 21st century skills into all aspects of the curriculum." These skills include critical thinking and problem solving, communication and collaboration, creativity and innovation, and global citizenship.

"Over 400 applications received from educators and principals across Canada for 20 donations confirms the overwhelming need for significant technological investments in our classrooms to support our most vulnerable learners," says EdCan Chair Denise Andre.

"As students adjust to a different way of learning, our hope is that this program will help provide a more equitable learning environment, and that access to technology doesn't become a barrier for academic success," says Desjardins' Senior Vice-President of the Ontario Market Marilyn Horrick.

Using technology in the classroom increases student engagement and confidence. As students explore the technology independently, they develop new ways of learning on their own, in groups and with teacher guidance. Technology also prepares students for postsecondary studies and the world of work.
