On March 3, students and staff at Portage View PS in Barrie welcomed Lucy Gowers, a representative of Youth Haven, to the school to receive a donation of nearly $2,500.
The funds were raised at the school's annual Gift Gala. In December, Grade 7 and 8 students coordinate this event, where the school community donates gently used or new items that students can purchase for their family members to celebrate the holiday season. All gifts are $1, and each gift is individually wrapped by the Grade 7 and 8 students using donated supplies.
Additional funds from other in-school programs and a staff silent auction were added to the money raised through the Gift Gala, bringing the total to $2,461.65.
